I have created art since I was very young. Paint brushes and clay have replaced the crayons and Play-doh of my early days, but the enjoyment I get while creating art remains the same. Taking a vision or an idea conceived in my mind and translating into something that is tangible is a challenge. To come close at translating these visions is fulfilling and provides further inspiration for me to continue to sculpt and grow artistically.
I am a self-taught artist who is still learning all the time about the craft of bronze casting. I cast my first sculpture in 2001, a simple bust of a mountain gorilla. A gorilla was the obvious choice for my first bronze. When I was a child, fantasy films were a big part of my life. I was especially fond of King Kong. The sympathy this real "movie monster" evoked in me even as a young child was substantial. This was no doubt the spark that started a lifelong fascination with our simian cousins. Primates are subjects that I will continue to go back to as long as I create.
I was born and raised in Sonoma County, CA. I now live in Oregon with my lovely wife Amy and our son Kyle.
